Laser snoring treatment for quieter nights
QuietNite is a non-invasive laser treatment designed to tighten the soft palate, and it may help reduce snoring. Dr. Jeff Buxton pairs it with an airway evaluation, so you know what's behind the noise.

Snoring is a sound. The airway behind it is the story.
You laugh about it at dinner. Your partner doesn't laugh at 3 a.m. Maybe you've tried nasal strips, a new pillow, or sleeping on your side, and the snoring keeps coming back.
Snoring happens when air moves through a narrowed space and soft tissue vibrates. Sometimes that's mostly the soft palate. Sometimes snoring can point to something worth evaluating, like a narrow jaw or pauses in breathing during sleep.
That's why we look at your whole airway at Toothpillow Breathing & Sleep Center in Draper. Snoring alone can't tell anyone whether sleep apnea is present. Proper sleep testing can, and we want that answer before we treat.

When snoring may point to something worth evaluating
Snoring along with any of these is a good reason to get a sleep test and an airway exam.
Pauses or gasping
Your partner notices breathing stops, choking sounds, or sudden gasps.
Waking tired
You sleep a full night and still wake up groggy.
Morning headaches or dry mouth
You wake with a headache or a mouth that feels like you breathed through it all night.
Daytime sleepiness
You fight to stay alert in meetings, while reading, or on long drives.
Grinding or clenching
Worn teeth or a sore jaw in the morning can go along with restless breathing at night.
Loud, nightly snoring
Snoring most nights, in any position, loud enough to hear through a closed door.
It all starts with an airway consultation
Before anyone talks treatment, we get the full picture. Your consultation with Dr. Buxton includes:
- A 3D CBCT scan of the airway, jaws, and joints
- A digital intraoral scan (no goopy molds)
- Photos and a hands-on exam of breathing, tongue, and bite
- A plain-language walkthrough of what we see and what your options are

Before the laser: a sleep test and an airway exam
Most adults start with our at-home sleep ring, and if you need a diagnosis, we refer you to a sleep physician we work with (or one of your choice). Then Dr. Buxton looks at the structures that shape your airway:
- Your soft palate, uvula, tonsils, and tongue position
- A 3D CBCT scan of your airway and jaws
- A digital scan of your teeth and bite
- Your nasal breathing and sleep history
If the results suggest more is going on, we'll talk through a fuller adult airway plan and coordinate with your physician.

What to expect from QuietNite laser treatment
Exam and sleep data
We confirm QuietNite makes sense for you based on your exam and your sleep results.
In-office laser sessions
Dr. Buxton applies laser energy to the soft palate tissue at the back of your mouth, with no incisions. He'll explain what to expect during and after each visit.
A short series
QuietNite is typically a series of three to four sessions, about a month apart, with a yearly touch-up recommended. Dr. Buxton will recommend a schedule that fits your case.
Part of the bigger plan
QuietNite is often done on its own, and it can also be added at any point in a larger plan with DOMEzero expansion and clear aligners. Your plan depends on your sleep results.
On its own or as part of a bigger plan
Laser treatment works on soft tissue. Structure matters too. If a narrow upper jaw is crowding your tongue and nasal airway, tightening the soft palate on its own may address only part of the picture.
Many patients do QuietNite on its own. When a narrow jaw is part of the picture, Dr. Buxton may also talk with you about expansion with DOMEzero (or Vivos® when a removable approach fits) and clear aligners, and QuietNite can fit in at any point along the way.
- Non-invasive, with no incisions
- Designed to tighten soft palate tissue
- Coordinated with your sleep results and physician
Want nightly support while you work through the plan? A custom oral appliance may help in the meantime.

Short videos from Dr. Jeff Buxton. Educational only; every patient is different.
Most of us have heard the song, it's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring. We grow up thinking that when we become old men, we're going to snore, right? Our grandpa snored, our dads maybe snored. We kind of thought it was endearing and cute, but I'm here to tell you, not endearing or cute.
In fact, it's a sign of underlying health issues. In fact, some of you probably have heard of obstructive sleep apnea. The starting point for obstructive sleep apnea can often be snoring. The other one is upper airway resistance syndrome, but the two are highly related. In fact, when we snore, most of the time it's related to our mouth breathing.
In fact, mouth breathing and snoring is bidirectional. The more we mouth breathe, the more we snore. And the more we snore, the more likely we are to mouth breathe. So an interesting exercise you can do at home is you can keep your lips together, breathe through your nose and try to snore. It's extremely difficult to do.
But then after that, let's have you open your mouth, breathe in and try to snore. And you find that it's very easy to do. So snoring is not something that we want to be doing. In fact, if you or your spouse is snoring, it's time to maybe do a sleep screening and find out what's happening at night and what's happening with your breathing.

Frequently asked questions
What is QuietNite?
QuietNite is a non-invasive laser treatment for the soft palate. It's designed to tighten tissue at the back of the mouth that can vibrate during sleep, and it may help reduce snoring.
Does laser snoring treatment hurt?
The treatment uses no incisions, and we offer a numbing mouth rinse for patients with a sensitive gag reflex. Comfort varies from person to person, and Dr. Buxton will talk you through what to expect during and after each session.
Is snoring a sign of sleep apnea?
It can be, and it can also happen without it. Only proper sleep testing can tell the difference, which is why we usually start with a sleep test before treating snoring.
How many sessions will I need?
Most patients need three to four sessions, scheduled about a month apart, and we recommend a touch-up once a year. Dr. Buxton will recommend a plan based on your exam and sleep results.
Will QuietNite stop my snoring for good?
No one can promise that, and results vary. QuietNite is designed to tighten soft palate tissue and may help reduce snoring. Pairing it with airway treatment like DOMEzero expansion is designed to address more of the structure behind the sound.
